New school year, new after-school schedule. The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is KYC-ing up the after school program to offer fun, enriching and educational programming for the whole family. As always, our KYC program provides kids ages 7-12 with a safe and thriving environment to strengthen their minds and bodies.

But this year we have added a Custom KYC Hour for you and your kids to choose the best programming for your family. Also, we have added fitness offerings for parents DURING KYC hours. No more driving one place for swimming, another for music lessons, all while trying to squeeze in a work out. Get it all done, here, with the new and improved KYC After School Program.

KYC After School Program Schedule

3:00-4:00 pm:

  • Arrival, homework help/reading time,technology time and snack

4:00-5:00 pm (Custom KYC Hour) Choose from the following programs:

Transportation

There is no longer a transportation fee! The cost is now included in KYC tuition! We will pick up children and safely transport them to the most fun, educational and enriching after school program available! Transportation is available on a first come, first served basis. The Kroc Community Center will pick up from any school in the area based on enrollment. In past years we have provided transportation from:

KYC Aquatics

KYC SwimSwimming is a lifelong skill that can improve health, fitness, confidence and more. Plus, jumping into a pool is just down right fun for kids and a lot less worrisome for parents who know their children have strong swimming skills. At The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center we are dedicated to helping kids learn new and useful skills that will help them throughout their life. This is why we are expanding our aquatics offerings during the KYC After School Program!

During KYC you can sign your child up for:

KYC Swimming Lessons

Children will improve all aspects of their swimming, including front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke and dives all while building endurance and confidence in their abilities. Swimmers will be divided by ability.

Mondays, Sept. 14 – Oct. 19| 4:00-4:30 pm & 4:30-5:00 pm | KYC Cost – $30

A new tradition – TGIF Open Swim!

TGIF! The work week is over and it’s time for a little fun. What better way to celebrate the end of the week than joining your KYC kid in the The Kroc Community Center pool? You can play in the kid’s area, relax around the lazy river or experience the thrill of the waterside. TGIF Open Swim is for KYC families whose child completed at least one hour of homework that week. It will be held every Friday beginning at 4. So remember to pack your swim suit and towels before going to work on Friday and end the week with a splash!

KYC Social and Academic Clubs

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center’s KYC After School Program is a different kind of afterschool option in Northeast Wisconsin. At KYC, we don’t just provide a place for your children to spend their after school time. We KYC it up a notch by offering programs that are fun, educational and enriching all in a place designed to help them grow and reach their full potential.

New at KYC this year are customizable educational clubs and classes to match your child’s needs and interests. Choose from:

Mission: Literacy

This unique program provides instruction that expands children’s reading skills while they discover the joy of reading God’s Word. It is a multicultural program using Bible stories designed for struggling readers who are tutored in groups of no more than 5 children.

Tuesdays and Thursdays | 4:00-5:00 pm

Science and Inventors Club

Using The Einstein Project and Engineering Adventures, this club is designed to offer exciting, out-of-school learning activities. KYC kids will engage in projects that include hands-on, inquiry based science units so kids can experience the best science possible. The units not only cover science, but also use math, engineering, technology, reading and other subjects.

Homework and Reading Help

Each and every day at KYC, children are encouraged to complete their homework with help from KYC staff. Our YADI* trained KYC counselors are there to ensure homework is getting completed and offering help for your children. They are also encouraged to use their after school time to improve reading skills during our dedicated homework and reading hour at the beginning of each day.

*YADI, or National Youth Asset Development, is a national program launched by the Salvation Army in partnership with Search Institute. The program focuses on positive youth development as an outcome of all programs. It is recognized for being an important tool in documenting and delivering positive outcomes to youth and families. Recently The Kroc Community Center in Green Bay, WI was selected to be a phase 4 pilot site.

Character Building Troops

At The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center your children don’t only have the opportunity to grown and learn through education, arts and fitness, but also to grow spiritually. Kroc Church will provide programming to help children develop using fun activities while teaching the Word of God.

Our troop classes are for children 4-12 years old and have a foundation rooted in the scouting tradition. KYC children will explore the world around them while earning badges using a biblically based curriculum to help them grow socially, mentally and spiritually.

Health and Wellness

Youth YogaAt The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center we are KYC-ing our after school program up a notch by offering programs not only designed to help kids grow and develop mentally, but physically as well. That’s because part of helping children learn and grow also means teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle! Let’s not forget that the programs are tons of fun for the kids as well!

Our Health and Wellness team have developed programming that will help KYC kids get active in their time after school, and teach them the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. You can choose from:

Achieve Physical Education
Achieve is a nationally recognized, fun-filled and comprehensive program promoting physical activity, participation and teamwork. Designed with a flexible yet organized, noncompetitive approach to health and wellness these after school activities are engaging for all children who want to improve and learn about a variety of sports and physical activity.

Tuesdays and Thursdays | 4:15-5:00 pm

Kids Yoga
Stretch and strengthen from head to toe! We use various props, do fun activities that target balance and strength and listen to age appropriate songs.

Get YOUR workout in!
We get it, you’re busy. There’s work duties, dinner to be planned and made, clean the house, make sure kids home work is done and more. Sometimes it can seem impossible to get it all done, plus, you know you should be getting a workout in. Well, when your child is enjoying the new KYC programming, you can get active yourself. As a Kroc member, the Fitness Center is available for strength, cardio, endurance, flexibility and agility training. To KYC up our offerings, our fitness staff has developed group classes specifically designed for busy parents. The schedule includes:

  • Lifting 101 | Mondays and Wednesdays | 4:15-5:00 pm
  • Barre | Tuesdays and Thursdays | 4:15-5:00 pm
  • Cardio Fusion Boot Camp | Mondays and Wednesdays | 5:15-6:15  pm
  • Core and More | Tuesdays | 5:30-6:30 pm
  • Group Strength Training | Thursdays | 5:15-6:00 pm

KYC Performing and Creative Arts

KYC performing artsThe Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center believes that it is crucial to children’s growth and development to be exposed to performing and creative arts. This year, we are KYC-ing up our offerings to provide your children the opportunity to have fun, learn and explore their creativity through programming designed to enrich their lives.

New at KYC this year are customizable performing and creative art options:

Kroc School of Music
If your child has expressed an interest in learning an instrument, but you’re not sure you’re ready for the financial and time commitments, you’ll love the KYC Kroc School of Music. These beginner group classes for piano and acoustic guitar are a great way for your aspiring musician to learn the fundamentals of reading music, music theory, technique and simple songs.

Beginner Guitar | Mondays | 4:30-5:00 pm
(Guitars will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.)
Beginner Piano | Thursdays | 4:00-4:30 pm

Kroc Drumline
Rhythm is found everywhere, and children love to bang out beats on whatever is available. In this class, students learn how to harness and direct that rhythm into a seamless drum-line style ensemble.

Tuesdays | 4:00-4:30 pm

KYC Pom & Dance
Work on dance routines as a group, utilizing all dancers for visual effect. Poms will be provided.
Tuesdays | 4:30-5:00 pm

Junior Brass Band
Previous experience playing a brass instrument required

Brass band is designed for children who want to continue to learn and improve their skills with a brass instrument. Not only will they have the chance to learn as a group, but they will have the opportunity to perform on Sundays during Kroc Church.

Tuesdays | 4:15-5:00 pm

Ballet/Jazz/Tap Dance
Students will learn basic ballet, jazz and tap steps, while improving their coordination, technique and flexibility.

Mondays | Sept. 14 – Dec 7 | 4:00-4:30 pm | KYC Cost: $52

Jazz & Hip Hop Dance
Students will learn fundamental jazz techniques, hip-hop steps and how to move with proper body alignment. They will also gain flexibility, strength, coordination and become more confident performers. All dance moves and music are age appropriate.

Elementary Art

Students will develop skills in Photography, Acrylics, Mixed Media, Watercolor, Clay, Paper Mache and other media.

Private Lessons Available!

While your child is at the KYC After School Program they can advance their skills or try out a new musical instrument through private lessons with an expert teacher from The Kroc Community Center. Lessons are available during KYC hours, so no more driving all around town to get the expert help they want to excel at the instrument of their choice. Get it all done, here, at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
